I’d like to share something important with all of you, but before I do, let me ask you a question: How do you feel about uncertainty? What emotions does it stir within you? When you contemplate uncertainty, what thoughts and feelings arise?
When i got into Trading, I immersed myself in studying patterns, honed my skills through paper trading, and established unrealistic expectations. I searched for trading systems that could inject certainty into the inherently uncertain world of trading. While paper trading, I performed exceptionally well, consistently earning $2,000 to $3,000 a day. However, the moment real money was on the line, anxiety and emotions overwhelmed me. I felt shaky, fearful, and insecure. Uncertainty was a torment, stirring a myriad of emotions and unearthing unresolved issues in my life.
The fight-or-flight response kicked in, as if the voices of my parents from my childhood resurfaced, filled with doubt and disapproval. All I wanted was to find an entry point that would guarantee certainty, but those nagging emotions persisted. Few Years ago, during a routine visit to the eye doctor, I learned that my eyes were deteriorating. I had no prior knowledge of this condition and, naturally, I turned to the endless abyss of information known as Google.. The thought crossed my mind: “What if something happens?” Here I was, trading stocks, a notoriously uncertain endeavor, while grappling with uncertainty about my eyesight’s future.
I spiraled into a dark abyss. My enthusiasm for chart analysis waned, as I believed that each chart I scrutinized and every backtesting session I conducted was jeopardizing my eyesight. My entire life was overshadowed by uncertainty. It felt as though everything I had worked for, everything I stood for, was crumbling before my eyes. Each passing day, uncertainty gnawed at me, forcing me to confront my mortality. I had always believed in my ability to overcome any challenge—after all, I’m Anmol Singh, and my motto was, “I can succeed in anything” Yet, here I was, navigating an uncertain field while grappling with uncertain health issues. It was bewildering. I felt as though I was reliving my parents’ struggles with health issues, desperately seeking certainty.
However, as time passed, I came to a realization: everything happens for a reason. I needed to learn how to cope with uncertainty and establish a system. I began taking proactive measures for my eyes, including acupuncture, a balanced diet, electrical stimulation, and red light therapy, among others. Each of these steps formed a systematic approach. With a system in place, I could find certainty within an inherently uncertain situation. Doubts still crept in from time to time, but I had no choice but to move forward, even during nerve-wracking. moments.
So, how does this relate to trading? How does it relate to you? Life itself is uncertain. You have no way of knowing if you’ll receive a bad diagnosis at your doctor’s appointment tomorrow or if you’ll encounter an accident while driving down the street. You have no certainty about anything, so it’s essential to embrace uncertainty.
The only way to do that is by having a trading system. What is your system? What are your go-to trades that consistently present themselves? The real question is, when you recognize these trades, do you act on them or continue to hesitate? Understand that there is no absolute certainty in life. If you struggle to embrace uncertainty, you’ll find it challenging to navigate trading and, ultimately, your life as a trader.
Embrace the uncertain journey, and may your trading path be guided by discipline and adaptability, for in the end, it is your ability to navigate uncertainty that defines your success.
